Important Updated Information Concerning the FOP Verizon Discount Plan.

By now you have probably heard that Verizon Wireless is changing its discount plan offered to public safety groups, including the State FOP. Verizon is no longer offering the unlimited data plan. The change is planned to take effect on November 15, 2015. We hope to educate you on the new plan, describe how to remain grandfathered with the current unlimited data plan and help you make your decisions – as our discount transitions to a new structure.

As you read on, know that any time after November 14, 2015, if you take steps to add a line, make any changes to your current plan, or upgrade a phone, you will need to decide between three choices:

Choice #1 “The Grandfather” – Yes, you can retain most of your current plan benefits with the exception of discounted phone upgrade every year and make any plan changes. In order to retain your current plan, you can’t add a new line, make any minute changes and you must pay full price for your device. Hopefully, soon, the AZ FOP will be partnering with a refurbished device retailer to help you keep you device pricing at a minimum – helpful, if you want to stay on the plan you are currently under. This is the optimum strategy if you use a lot of data. Log into your Verizon wireless account online to see how much data or talk minutes you use on a monthly basis or you can ask an account rep assist you to determine if your data or talk usage is high. In addition, you must maintain FOP membership to be eligible for the “grandfathered” FOP Verizon discount.

Choice #2 “The New Plan” – The new plan will no longer have the two biggest selling points for the public safety group discount. Verizon will no longer offer unlimited data or a new device every year. For the full breakdown on what is different, We have put together a chart to compare the new plan with the old plan. This “new” plan is best for subscribers who talk a lot (voice minutes), and control their data usage – or use very little data. The “new” plan includes unlimited minutes for voice/talk. FOP members must maintain membership to be eligible for the “New Plan.”

Choice #3 “State Employee Plan” – One plan that we chose not to add to the chart, but figured we would let you know about is the option for you to obtain the State Employee Discount Plan (if you are an active government employee). This plan has higher pricing and charges for things that come with the above plans like restocking, and activation. It also requires a check on your personal credit. However, this plan does allow you to conduct your business in Verizon wireless retail stores since your information is more accessible to a wider veriety of Verizon employees. You must have Employee Credentials or ID to take advantage of this Verizon plan.

See a comparison chart for options 1 and 2….

The Arizona State FOP will continue to evaluate the discounts provided by all of the vendors we partner with to ensure that their pricing is competitive and their service is at the levels you deserve.

If there are any questions or concerns, please contact Lorraine Thompson (FOP member who has volunteered to assist with questions) at lofoplodge1@gmail.com If you are a current FOP plan Verizon customer who wants to make plan changes or upgrade a phone “prior” to November 15, 2015, contact Verizon Business Customer Service at: (800) 922-0204 (Hours: Monday – Friday 8am – 8pm).

Thank You,

John Ortolano, President
